Thong Sala Beach is considered one of the beaches that can watch the beautiful sunset and can be see islands which is not too far from the beach, it is the spot which guided tour companies tends to lead tourists to paddle a kayak to Koh Tae Nai which is not far from the beach for relaxation. In the front of the beach, is the location of Phangan Royal Navy Ship which is already demobilized and brought here to make this navy ship as a monument. In the past, Phangan Royal Navy Ship was the ship for landing and for battles and wars, once she was known as USS Stark County(LST-1134) which was donated by American government. She was active since 16 January 1966 and retired in 5 June 2008, about 40 active years in Thai Navy, has participated in Vietnam War as Landing Ship and surveil at coast area to prevent infiltrations, transporting armaments and foods to cities in Vietnam, being ambushed several time, but has less damaged. In the present day, Thai Navy support Phangan Royal Navy Ship with ship's package to Surat Thani PAO in 10 June 2010 for building Phangan Royal Navy Ship monument at Thong Sala port, Koh Phangan subdistrict, Koh Phangan district, Surat Thani as a historical learning center for next generations and honored Thai Navy and as the pride of Surat Thani local people.
